Tattify

Terms of Service

Terms of Service

1. What Tattify is

Tattify is a booking platform. Clients use it to find tattoo artists, send appointment requests, pay deposits, and message the artist they booked. Artists use it to receive requests, book appointments, and get paid.

Tattify is not a tattoo studio. We do not perform tattoos, employ artists, or supervise their work. Artists are independent businesses. They set their own prices, choose their own clients, and are solely responsible for the work they do.

We are not a party to the agreement between you and your artist. We hold the booking, process the payment, and provide the messaging. What happens in the studio is between the two of you.

We do not vet artists. Apart from the optional license check described here, we do not verify licensing, insurance, training, skill, or safety practices, and we do not review portfolios for authenticity.

An artist can choose to upload a photo of their tattoo license or their studio license. If we check it against the name and studio address they gave us and the name Stripe verified, and it matches, their profile shows "Tattoo license verified" or "Studio license verified". That means a license matching their details was on file and in date when we checked. It does not mean the artist is safe or skilled, or licensed for every kind of work. The badge disappears when the license expires, and we can withdraw it at any time. Choosing an artist is your decision.

2. Who can use Tattify

You must be 18 or older. You confirm this when you create your account, as a separate document you accept (Age Requirement).

Tattify does not verify your age. Your artist is the person responsible for checking it in person before any tattoo is done, and they can ask you for identification.

You must give accurate information when you sign up and keep it current.

3. Your account

Your role is chosen once and cannot be changed. When you sign up you choose whether you are a client or an artist. There is no way to switch afterwards, in the app or by asking us; the only route to the other role is a new account with a different email address.

Neither role can do the other's. An artist account cannot send a booking request, even to a different artist, and a client account has no artist profile and cannot be booked.

Your account is yours. Don't share your sign-in, and tell us at support@tattify.tech if you think someone else has used it.

You can block another user. Blocking is available from the app and stops that person reaching you through Tattify. It does not, by itself, cancel a request or an appointment you already have with them, and it does not move any money — if you want to cancel, cancel; §7 says what that does.

4. How booking works

1. You send a request to an artist, answering their questions and attaching reference photos. 2. When you submit, your saved card is authorized for the larger of the artist's two deposits — consultation and tattoo — plus Tattify's platform fee, because the artist decides which kind of appointment to book. Money is held, not charged. 3. The artist accepts or declines. 4. If the artist accepts and books a date, your deposit is charged at that point — not before. What is charged is the deposit for the kind of appointment they booked, plus $10, and the rest of the hold is released.

Further appointments are proposed, not booked. Once you have a conversation with an artist, they can propose another appointment in it — the next session of the same piece, or turning a consultation into a tattoo appointment (§9). A proposal books nothing and charges nothing. You see the date, the time and the total your card would be charged, and you accept or decline it in the app. Your card is charged only if you accept, and never more than the total you were shown; if your bank asks you to confirm the payment, you do that as part of accepting. The total can be $0 — for example when a consultation deposit carries over — and you still need to accept, because accepting commits you to the date.

A proposal stays open for up to 72 hours, and never past the start of the appointment it proposes (§9 has one earlier deadline). We remind you once, when about 24 hours are left. If you do not answer in time it lapses: nothing is charged, the time is released, and you and your artist are both told in the chat. Until you answer, your artist can move the proposed time or withdraw the proposal, and you are told either way.

One conversation can hold several appointments. A large piece is often done over several sessions. Each follow-up session your artist proposes and you accept is its own appointment, in the same conversation as the first, with its own deposit — and everything these Terms say about an appointment applies to each one separately: cancelling (§7), not turning up, paying for the tattoo in the app (§6), and refunds (§8). So over a piece done in several sessions you may pay a deposit, and a payment for the tattoo, more than once. The app shows which session you are looking at. Your artist may choose not to take a deposit for a follow-up session; if they do, accepting it charges you only Tattify's $10 platform fee.

Your artist can move your appointment to a new date. They can do this in the app without asking you first, and you are told in the chat when it happens. Nothing is charged and nothing is refunded — your deposit moves with the appointment. A moved appointment is still a booked appointment and §7 applies to it unchanged. Once an appointment's start time has passed your artist can no longer move it, except as part of closing it out after a session you missed (§7.9).

You can have up to five requests pending with the same artist at once. A sixth is refused until one of the five is answered, cancelled or booked.

The price you see is the price you pay. The deposit and total shown to you when you submit are recorded on your request at that moment. If the artist changes their prices afterwards, it does not affect your request in either direction — a later increase is never charged to you, and a later decrease is not passed on to you. If an artist wants an existing request to have a lower deposit, they can decline it, which releases your hold, and you can submit again at the new price.

If the artist has raised their prices between the moment you were shown a figure and the moment you submit, Tattify refuses the submission rather than charging you more than you were shown, and asks you to confirm again at the new figure.

If they have lowered them in that moment, the submission goes through at the lower figure and you are held for less than you were shown. We do not stop to ask, because the change is in your favour. Once the request is submitted, §4's freeze applies and later changes move nothing in either direction.

The same-day tattoo price is outside that freeze. It is set by the artist when they ask you to pay, and shown to you before you pay. See §6.

5. The card hold, and what happens if it lapses

A hold is not a charge. It reserves the amount on your card. Your bank may show it as pending.

A hold lasts about four days. If your request has not been booked by then, the hold is released automatically and nothing is charged.

We warn you before it lapses. If you have notifications on, Tattify sends you a push about twelve hours before the hold expires, and another when it has expired.

A lapsed hold never cancels or withdraws your request. Your request stays exactly as it is — your answers, your photos and your place in the artist's queue are all kept. Only the payment needs redoing.

You can renew a lapsed hold at any time, with no deadline. The app shows you a Refresh Payment control on the request. The artist can still accept a request whose hold has lapsed; booking you needs a live authorization, accepting does not.

6. Every amount that can be charged to you

All amounts are in US dollars. Tattify charges nothing in any other currency.

Deposit hold — How much: the larger of the artist's consultation and tattoo deposits, plus $10; When it is charged: when you submit a request — authorized, not charged Deposit — How much: the artist's deposit for the kind of appointment they book, plus $10; the rest of the hold is released; When it is charged: when the artist books your appointment Tattify's platform fee — How much: $10, on every charge above and below; When it is charged: included in each, never separate Deposit for a follow-up session — How much: the deposit your artist proposes, which may be $0, plus $10; When it is charged: when you accept your artist's proposal — see §4 Second deposit on a late conversion — How much: the tattoo deposit the artist set, plus $10; When it is charged: when you accept your artist's proposal to turn a consultation into a tattoo appointment, if they propose it on or after the day of the consultation — see §9 The tattoo itself, if you pay in the app — How much: the artist's price, plus $10, plus any tip you add; When it is charged: when you pay it. Your artist can ask only as part of marking the appointment complete, after its start time and on the appointment's own day. You choose whether to pay, and the request stays open until you pay it or your artist withdraws it. Tip — How much: whatever you choose, up to $1,000; When it is charged: with the tattoo payment

The limits Tattify enforces, stated because you can hit them:

- An artist's deposit is at least $25.00. - A tattoo price charged through the app is at most $5,000.00. - A tip is at most $1,000.00.

Payment attempts are rate-limited. Tattify allows ten payment attempts an hour, counted across everything you do that touches a card, together rather than separately. That includes submitting a request — submitting is what puts the hold on your card — as well as refreshing a lapsed hold, saving or replacing a card, accepting an appointment your artist proposes (even one that costs nothing), and paying for a tattoo on the day.

What is outside the limit: an artist booking you. That is your artist's action rather than yours, and no new card is presented, so it is never refused for this reason. Deleting your account is never rate-limited either.

Tattify also limits how often one account can do most other things in an hour — set so that ordinary use never reaches them. If you do reach one, you are asked to wait and try again; nothing you already did is undone.

Your card details never reach Tattify. They go to Stripe. We hold only a reference to the card you authorized, plus its brand and last four digits.

7. Every way a request can end, and what happens to your money

This is the most important section. It is written as an exhaustive list because the word "cancellation" on its own does not tell you where the money went — that depends on who ended it, when, and whether the deposit had been charged yet.

7.1 The artist declines

Nothing is charged and nothing is refunded, because nothing was ever taken. The hold is released. You are told in the app.

An artist cannot decline a request that is already booked, or one whose deposit has already been charged.

7.2 You cancel before your deposit is charged

The hold is released. Nothing is charged, nothing is refunded, no fee.

7.3 You cancel a booked appointment

Your deposit is not refunded. The artist keeps it. This is true whenever you cancel and for whatever reason — the deposit compensates the artist for a slot they held for you.

You can cancel in the app until the appointment's scheduled start time. Once that exact moment has passed, the appointment can no longer be cancelled in the app.

7.4 You cancel after your deposit was charged but before you were booked

Occasionally a deposit is charged and the booking does not complete — a payment succeeds and the appointment write does not. Your artist can still finish booking you.

If you cancel while that is the state of things, your deposit is not refunded. If you wait instead, §7.8 applies.

7.5 The artist cancels a booked appointment

Your deposit is refunded to you automatically, apart from Tattify's platform fee. The artist has no choice in the matter and no ability to keep it.

Three things happen, in this order: Tattify charges the artist a cancellation fee; your deposit is refunded to your card; and the money that had gone to the artist is pulled back. The fee is a matter between Tattify and the artist and costs you nothing.

Sometimes an artist's cancellation does not go through at all. There are three reasons, and two of them are permanent:

- They have no working card on file for the fee. If they have no card, or it declines, the cancellation is refused and nothing changes — your appointment stays booked, on the same date, with your deposit exactly where it was. You are not told, because nothing happened. - Your deposit has already been paid out to them. Once that money has left Tattify for the artist's bank it cannot be pulled back, so the app refuses the cancellation outright. The appointment stays as it is and neither of you can cancel it in the app. Email support@tattify.tech and we'll work with you to sort it out. This can happen when an appointment passes and nobody closes it out — see §7.14. - You have already paid for the tattoo in the app. A paid appointment cannot be cancelled by either of you.

7.6 The artist cancels a consultation on or after the day of the consultation

Your deposit is not refunded, because the consultation took place. The day is counted in the artist's studio's local time. No cancellation fee is charged to the artist either.

7.7 You abandon a request that failed to submit

If a submission fails and you discard it, the hold on your card is released and nothing is charged. Your bank may show the release as pending for a few days. If Tattify cannot reach Stripe to confirm the release at that moment, the app refuses rather than pretending — try again.

7.8 Your deposit was charged but you were never booked — the five-day release

If the booking has not been completed five days after the charge, your deposit is refunded automatically, apart from Tattify's platform fee, and the request is closed. Both you and the artist are told. Five days is the earliest, not the exact moment — Tattify checks once a day, so a refund lands between five and about six days after the charge.

7.9 Your appointment happens

Afterwards, your artist marks the appointment complete in the app. Closing it moves no money by itself — your deposit was already charged when you were booked, and closing changes nothing about it. Marking it complete is also the only moment your artist can ask you to pay for the tattoo in the app. When they mark it complete they are asked whether the tattoo went ahead, and if it did, whether to take payment through Tattify. If they choose to, a payment request reaches you and you decide whether to pay it — see §6. If they don't, or if they never mark the appointment complete at all, nothing is asked of you and nothing is charged.

If you do not turn up, your artist closes the appointment out the same way and keeps your deposit. Nothing is refunded and no fee is charged to either of you. If it was a tattoo appointment, they may then propose a follow-up — a new appointment with a new deposit, which you must accept before anything is booked or charged (see §4) — or, if your deposit has not yet been paid out to them, move this one to a new date at no further cost.

If your artist marks you as a no-show, you are told, in the chat and by notification. If a deposit was taken, the message says your artist kept it; if your artist moved the appointment to a new date instead, it says your deposit carries over. If your artist closes the appointment out as having gone ahead, you are not notified. Either way, Tattify keeps a record of what your artist said happened, with that appointment's records — for example in case there is later a dispute about it. You are not shown the record itself. You are notified if a payment request follows.

7.10 Your hold lapses

This is not an ending. See §5: the request survives, the status does not change, and you can renew.

7.11 You dispute a charge with your bank

See §10.

7.12 You report a problem and Tattify refunds you

See §11.

7.13 Tattify cancels your appointment

If Tattify refunds your deposit after a complaint (§11), or because the artist's account was closed for impersonation (§14), and your appointment has not yet been closed out, the appointment is cancelled at the same time — including one whose start time has passed but which was never closed. You are told in the chat. You receive the deposit amount; Tattify's $10 platform fee is not refunded (§8).

7.14 The two states where neither of you can act

Rarely, a payment succeeds at Stripe and Tattify's record of it does not complete. While that is so, neither you nor your artist can cancel the appointment, and you cannot delete your account, because doing either would act on money whose position Tattify cannot yet establish. Tattify checks for this regularly and ordinarily repairs it on its own within a day. If it has not cleared by then, email support@tattify.tech. (A deposit charged without the booking completing is not one of these states — see §7.4 and §7.8.)

There is a second, and it is not a fault. Once your deposit has been paid out to your artist, that appointment can no longer be cancelled by either of you, because the money is no longer anywhere Tattify can return it from. This normally happens the day after an appointment nobody closed out. The appointment simply stays as it is.

8. Tattify's platform fee, and what is never refundable

Tattify's platform fee is $10 on every charge, and it is never refunded — in any circumstance. Not when your artist cancels, not on the automatic five-day release, not when Tattify refunds you after a complaint, and not when the cancellation was nothing to do with you.

A refund is the deposit amount the artist set, not the total charged to your card. For example, a $100 deposit is charged to your card as $110, and if it is refunded you receive $100.

Tips are never refundable.

A tattoo payment you make in the app is not refundable through Tattify. Once that payment has succeeded there is no way for you or your artist to reverse it in the app; if something is wrong, speak to your artist, or write to support@tattify.tech.

9. Consultations that become tattoo appointments

If an artist books your request as a consultation, they can later propose turning it into a tattoo appointment. That is a proposal like any other (§4): you see the date and what you would be charged, and nothing is booked or charged unless you accept. What accepting costs depends on when your artist proposes it:

- Proposed before the day of the consultation — your consultation deposit carries over and becomes the deposit for the tattoo appointment. Nothing more is charged. You still need to accept, and the proposal lapses at the start of the consultation's day if you have not. - Proposed on or after the day of the consultation — when you accept, a second deposit plus Tattify's platform fee is charged to your saved card, and your consultation deposit is not refunded, because the consultation took place.

The day is counted in the artist's studio's local time.

10. Disputes with your bank

If something goes wrong, tell us first at support@tattify.tech. Most problems are faster to solve directly, and a chargeback takes months.

If you dispute a charge with your bank, the bank takes the money back immediately, before deciding anything. If the dispute is decided against Tattify, we may reverse the corresponding payment to your artist.

11. Reporting a problem with an artist

You can report an artist from a request or from the chat on that request — including a request that was declined, cancelled, or never answered. Only someone who has sent that artist a request can report them this way. Two other kinds of report need no request: anyone signed in can report an artist's profile or one of their portfolio images (§13), and anyone, with or without a Tattify account, can report an artist for impersonating them (§14).

Tell us what happened; there is room for detail.

Tattify may review what you report and act on it. Depending on what we find, that can include refunding your deposit. A refund of a deposit after a complaint is the deposit amount only — the platform fee is not refunded, exactly as in §8, and a refund is all or nothing rather than a negotiated part.

We do not promise a refund, an outcome, or a timeframe, and we do not act as a judge of what happened between you and your artist in the studio. Reporting does not replace anything you can do with your own bank or under the law.

You will not always hear the outcome. Some outcomes are between Tattify and the artist.

12. Messages and notifications

Messages between you and your artist are part of the service. They stay in the conversation for that request — until the retention period in the Privacy Policy runs out. Ordinarily that is 180 days after your appointment, after which the request, its conversation, its messages and its photos are deleted, even though your account is still open. The Privacy Policy's §10 gives the full schedule and the things that hold a record past it.

Push notifications carry the content of the message. If you have notifications on, the title is the sender's name and the body is the message itself, shortened if it is long — so it can be read on a locked screen, and it passes through Apple's, Google's and Expo's notification services on the way to your phone. Studio addresses are deliberately never included in a push. You can turn notifications off in your device settings. See the Privacy Policy.

Automatic messages from Tattify are titled Tattify rather than a person's name, and some of them name an amount. A notification telling you a deposit was charged, a payment went through or a refund was made can show the figure on your lock screen. Notifications about a hold expiring carry no amount.

Emails about your account — confirming your address, resetting your password, telling you your password was changed — are part of the service and cannot be turned off while your account is open. After each payment you make, Stripe emails you a receipt on our behalf. A consultation's receipt shows the part of your card hold that was not used as "refunded", because that is how Stripe records a released hold. Nothing was charged and then refunded.

Tattify does not send text messages. We may ask for a phone number; §2 of the Privacy Policy says what we do and do not do with it.

You can archive a conversation once everything on it is finished: every appointment on it, including any follow-up, has been closed out, cancelled or declined; no request to pay for a tattoo in the app is still outstanding; and no proposed appointment on it is still open. A proposal counts as open until your artist clears it, even after you have declined it or it has lapsed. If your artist never marks a past appointment complete, neither of you can archive the conversation — ask them, or email support@tattify.tech.

Archiving only hides the conversation from your own list, and it can be undone. You can unarchive it yourself at any time, and it comes back for both of you whenever a new message is posted in it — by either of you, or by Tattify, for example about a payment or a proposal. There is no way to delete a conversation.

13. Your content

You keep ownership of what you upload. Your reference photos remain yours.

You give Tattify permission to store and display your content as needed to run the service: showing your reference photos to the artist you sent them to, and showing your messages to the person you are talking to.

Your reference photos and chat images are private to you and the other party to that request. They are served from private storage through links that expire.

Don't upload anything you don't have the right to. If you upload someone else's work, that's on you.

We can remove content that breaks these Terms or the law.

Anyone signed in can file a report. What can be reported is an artist's portfolio image, an artist's profile, or a request — the whole request, including its chat, its questions, its answers and its photos, rather than any one message or photo inside it. Either party to a request can report it, so an artist can report a request you sent them and you can report one you sent. Whoever reports picks a reason and can write up to 2,000 characters explaining it. We keep the report, including which request or profile it was filed on. A report on a request is not the same as the complaint in §11: a complaint can end in a refund, a warning or an artist's removal, and a report is reviewed by a person.

Two kinds of content can be hidden automatically, with nobody reviewing them first. An artist's portfolio image is hidden once three different people report it. An artist's whole profile can be hidden when a signed-in person reports that the artist is impersonating someone — see §14. Nothing else is hidden automatically. Any other report on a request or a profile is recorded for a person to look at, and nothing in the request or the chat changes because it was reported.

Nothing you upload is hidden automatically. If a photo of yours has disappeared and you don't know why, write to support@tattify.tech.

14. Reports that an artist is impersonating someone

Anyone can report that an artist on Tattify is using their name, their photos or their work. If you are signed in, report the artist from their profile. If you have no account, use the form on our website: it asks for your name, your email address, a link showing the work or identity is yours, and what happened. We then email you a link to confirm the report, and nothing is done about it until you confirm it.

What a report can do straight away. A report from a signed-in person can put the artist under review immediately, before anyone at Tattify has looked at it. Whether it does depends on the artist's history on Tattify and on who has reported them. A report from our website never does this on its own; it waits for us. Being put under review is a precaution while we look. It is not a finding that the report is true.

While an artist is under review, their profile is hidden, their photos are taken out of public reach, no new booking can be made with them and no payment can be taken on their existing requests, and their payouts are paused. If you have a request or appointment with them, it stays as it is rather than being cancelled. You can still cancel it yourself, and the ordinary rules in §7 apply.

How we decide. A person at Tattify reviews every impersonation report. We may ask the artist for proof, and we look at what the reporter and the artist each send us. We weigh it at our own discretion and reach our own judgment. No kind or amount of evidence, from either side, guarantees a particular outcome, and we do not promise a decision within any particular time or to explain our reasons. We may not tell the reporter what we decided.

If we do not uphold the report, the review ends and the artist's profile, photos, bookings and payouts are restored.

If we uphold it, the artist is removed from Tattify. For each client with an upcoming appointment with them, we refund the deposit, apart from the $10 platform fee, and cancel the appointment (§7.13). Card holds on their pending requests are released and those requests are declined, and we tell each of those clients by email. If you cancelled a booked appointment with that artist while the review was open, and so lost your deposit, we refund that deposit too, apart from the $10.

The artist's account is then suspended. They can no longer sign in, and we tell them by email. They can ask us to reconsider by replying to that email within 90 days with anything that shows their identity and that the work is theirs. Whether to lift the suspension is our decision. If we have not lifted it within 90 days, the account is deleted, as described in the Privacy Policy.

15. What you may not do

- Use Tattify if you're under 18 - Impersonate anyone - Upload illegal content, or content you have no right to - Harass, threaten, or abuse anyone - Try to get around Tattify's fee by arranging payment outside the platform for a booking made through it - Attempt to reach accounts, data, or systems you're not entitled to - Scrape, harvest, or bulk-collect information from Tattify - Use Tattify for anything unlawful

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.

16. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from within the app. It cannot be undone.

You cannot delete your account while a deposit you have paid is standing on an upcoming appointment. We refuse the deletion and tell you what to do: cancel those appointments first, then delete.

Cancelling them follows the ordinary rule in §7.3 — your deposit is still not refunded. The difference is that you choose it, knowingly, on a screen that tells you what it costs, rather than discovering it afterwards as a side effect of deleting your account.

Deletion is also refused while a payment on one of your bookings is under dispute with your bank, and while money is in an unresolved state: a payment still being recorded (§7.14); a deposit charged for a booking that was never written, which clears by itself within a few days; a conversion or bank check that did not finish; or an appointment whose status Tattify cannot confirm. It is also refused if we cannot reach Stripe to confirm that none of these applies — try again later. The app tells you which one you have hit. Before deleting, you are asked for your password again, and deletion goes through only if you have signed in within the last five minutes. This applies when you delete your own account, not when we delete an artist's account suspended for impersonation at the end of its 90 days (§14).

What deletion does and does not remove is set out in the Privacy Policy, and it is worth reading before you press the button. In short: your profile, your photos and your saved card go; the text of messages you have sent stays in the other person's conversation, shown as from a deleted user; and booking and payment records are kept, with your name and contact details removed from them.

If you have no appointments and no payments at all, everything is deleted outright and your email address is freed up for a new account.

We can close an account that breaks these Terms, with notice where practical.

17. Disclaimers

Tattify is provided as-is. We don't guarantee it will always be available or error-free.

We don't vet artists. See §1.

We are not responsible for the tattoo. The work, its quality, its safety and its outcome are between you and the artist — including any injury, infection, dissatisfaction, or dispute arising from it.

We don't guarantee anyone will show up. If an artist cancels, our obligation is limited to the refund described in §7.5.

Fraud and scams. We work to detect and prevent fraud on Tattify, but we cannot catch every instance, and we do not guarantee that any artist, client or account is genuine or acting honestly. If you believe you have been defrauded through Tattify, tell us at support@tattify.tech as soon as you can. We will look into it, and where we are able to, we will try to recover your money — for example, where the account responsible is still active on Tattify and money owed to it has not yet been paid out. What we do, and whether we act at all, is our decision. Recovery is not guaranteed, and Tattify is not responsible for money that cannot be recovered.

This does not take away any refund these Terms already give you (§7), or anything you can do with your own bank or under the law (§10).

18. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, Tattify's total liability to you for any claim is limited to the platform fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Some states don't allow these limits, in which case they apply as far as the law permits.

19. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, we publish a new version with a new date. A published version is never edited — a change is always a new version.

When we publish a new version, we ask you to accept it. The next time you open the app we show you the new version and ask you to read and accept it. Until you do, everything you have already committed to stays open to you — your booked appointments, your conversations with your artist, your payment history, your ability to cancel, and paying for a tattoo on the day. What is held back is starting something new: sending a request, and saving a card. You can put it off; we ask again next time.

Those two also refuse on our servers, not only on your screen. If we cannot confirm you hold the current version, we refuse and tell you to accept first. Deleting your account and sending us feedback are never held back this way, and neither is anything you have already paid for.

The same ask covers three documents, not only these Terms. Alongside this one, we ask you to confirm the Age Requirement and the Privacy Policy, and being behind on any of the three holds back the same two things. So you may be asked to read a document you did not expect, about a change these Terms did not make. If a document has never been published, nothing is asked for it and nothing is held back — you are only ever asked about a version that exists.

We do not warn you before a new version takes effect. A version takes effect when we publish it, and the ask above happens the next time you open the app. There is no notice beforehand.
